A brief personal profile

The family connection

This project arises out of a long love affair with Ardwall Island over more than 50 years.  My family has had the great good fortune, by courtesy of three generations of the McCulloch family, who own it, to have had use of Ardwall Island cottage for a few weeks in the summer since 1956.  I first went there when I was 8 years old.  For a bit of our own family history, see Murray

Colin Murray

I have an academic background, in anthropology and development studies and African Studies, with many years of research experience in southern Africa, mainly on migrant labour, regional political economy and local social history.  What particular family histories can tell us about larger changes in the world has been a pervasive professional interest.
